What safety precautions are you taking during the pandemic?

Houston Kitchen staff are extremely health conscious and value the integrity of our product! We wear face masks, face shield and gloves while handcrafting our torshi. Furthermore, all surfaces in our kitchen are always disinfected thoroughly and hand-washing occurs frequently. Should any of our staff members experience symptoms or if exposure is suspected, torshi-making will be put to a halt immediately and all orders will be cancelled for your safety.

Does Houston Kitchen deliver or offer pick up?

While we do not offer pickup, we offer free delivery on 6 items or more in Houston, Texas. On orders with fewer than 6 items, we only offer shipping. 

How do you ship Torshi?

We ship all torshi orders in glass jars that very durable! Torshi is not perishable thanks to the production of lactobacillus during the raw active fermentation process which keeps torshi safe to eat. As soon as you open the torshi, we recommend sealing tightly before refrigerating.

Will the Torshi leak during transit?

During shipping, torshi continues to ferment resulting in pressure build-up. It is possible that the jar lid will swell and perhaps leak but it is still safe to consume the torshi.

How long does Torshi last?

To get the most out of your torshi we recommend consuming in less than 12 months since Torshi's shelf life is up to 12 months unopened.

After opening, keep your torshi sealed tightly in the refrigerator and use only with clean utensils to maintain quality.

Like many fermented foods, our best before dates are conservative and torshi never goes bad, it just becomes more sour and less crunchy. HK's Torshi is a living product that will continue to develop in flavor and complexity. 

Can I return a Torshi?

If our torshi jar arrives in broken condition, returns are welcomed and accepted. If any of our products arrive opened, we'll be happy to exchange the torshi for you. 

What sustainable practices does Houston Kitchen use?

As an eco-conscious family-run company that believes in reducing ecological footprint as much as possible! We compost organic waste that we produce from cutting vegetables and herbs and we make this delicacy in small batches to prevent overproduction and food waste.

How should I eat Torshi?

Torshi is a traditional staple in Persian cuisine and is served in almost every meal as a side dish. But torshi is more than just a side dish and is extremely versatile, making it an invaluable and flavourful ingredient in all kinds of dishes. In Persian cooking, torshi is placed next to savoury foods especially for lunch and dinner. But feel free to get creative with HK's Torshi!
